In  building our cross-media business we keep a pulse closely on the latest development trends to meet the extensive  needs of the market. Based in Hong Kong, the Group’s business network covers major cities in the PRC, the US, Canada  and Europe, with around 1,300 staff worldwide. Within the print media operations, the flagship publication is the renowned Sing Tao Daily. Project Details 

A. Precise and Efficient Identity Verification 

As a renowned media group, Sing Tao has materials highly valuable and confidential that require extra-strict protection,  thus they expected to have reliable security and access control that can accurately identify staffs, to prevent loss caused  by any illegal and improper access to their major workplace. Sing Tao also required an efficient access control system  for quick and convenient identity authentication, as they have over 900 staffs daily accessing the headquarters building. Thus, a truly reliable verification method identity that does not sacrifice quickness thus has become a critical point. Thus  it requires a biometric verification method with unique authentication of staffs identity. 

Solution 

For Staffs 

ZKTeco deployed Mars-B1000 and Mars-B1200 swing barriers to form a 4-channel entrance & exit. 4 units of SpeedFace-V5L RFID [TI] Hybrid Biometrics Access Control Terminals are installed on the entrance sides of the swing barriers. All staffs’ identities and work-related information are registered with their face images recorded for access. They  are required to scan their faces by the SpeedFace-V5L-RFID[TI] QR for verification in order to have access to the  headquarters. The facial recognition is done accurately and quickly within 1 second for smooth access control. Also, it is equipped  with an ultimate antispoofing algorithm for facial recognition against almost all types of fake photos and videos attacks  to ensure preciseness of identity authentication. 5 units of ProID 10BE RFID card readers are installed on the exit sides of the barriers. Staffs cards are still remained for the  staffs but are only for exit. SpeedFace-V5L-RFID[TI] QR is a hybrid biometrics device including facial recognition, fingerprint verification and palm  verification. Users may choose biometric verification methods to apply according to their own needs. 

For Visitors

The system enables the delivery of invitations to the visitors with QR codes for access. Upon arrival, visitors may scan the  QR codes by the SpeedFace-V5L-RFID[TI] QR for verification of identity. If QR code invitation is not delivered previously,  RFID access cards can be instantly issued upon their arrival and simple registration. As the SpeedFace-V5L-RFID[TI] QR Terminal also enables QR Code reading, scramble QR code reading and RFID card  reading, the terminal scans every identity proof and no more additional devices are required. 

B. Effective Pandemic Prevention Measures 

Since the pandemic, people have been advised to avoid social gatherings as much as possible, as the virus is extremely  easily transmitted through droplet transmission and air transmission in close contact environments. In order to prevent  outbreaks caused by crowd gathering for inoculation, an effective measure of pandemic control is critical. As the most  common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, malaise, dry cough, and shortness of breath, identifying people with  high temperatures has become one of the most common methods to decrease the risk of virus spread. Generally,  independent temperature detection devices are applied in access points including handheld infrared ear or forehead  thermometers, however, it not only takes more manual work for staffs but also does not prevent manual mistakes of  detection. Apart from concentrating on temperature, wearing mask is regarded as one of the significantly useful measures to  reduce transmission, thus it is critical to ensure that people entering the crowd put on their masks. 

Solution

Facial Recognition does not require any physical touching of the device, the entire process is performed in a touchless  and automatic way. Furthermore, The SpeedFace-V5L-RFID[TI] QR is developed with an advanced facial recognition  algorithm that is able to identify human face precisely,  SpeedFace-V5L-RFID[TI] QR is equipped with a Thermal Imaging sensor for high-accuracy body temperature detection  use, the body temperature measurement accuracy is ±0.3°C (±0.54°F) in the range of measurement distance wide up  to 120cm. Temperature is detected automatically during facial recognition. The system is able to automatically display  all real-time detected temperatures to promptly identify all potential threats. With ZKTeco's computer vision technology, the terminals are also able to detect if people properly wear masks. All  people are eligible for access only with mask on to minimize respiratory droplet transmission of the virus.Before the deployment of the solution, the headquarters were using flap barriers for entrance & exit, which were  reportedly found not flexible. Our client requested a more flexible barrier system. Also, to take into account the needs of  the mobility impaired staffs and visitors, our client also demanded a barrier system with accessibility for them. 

Solution 

ZKTeco's Mars-B1200 swing barriers offer quick and ZKTeco customized the barrier system to extend one of the  channels from the regular 500mm wide to 800mm wide for more convenient access for mobility-impaired people. The  width between barriers is customizable and can be extended up to 900mm. There are 6 pairs of infrared sensors installed at each Mars series barrier for precise object detection, in order to prevent  accidents and injury.  The Mars Series swing barriers have reserved holes for AC Standalone terminal quick installation, improving installation  efficiency and saving installation cost as customization is no longer needed. The case of the barrier system is also built with high-quality SUS304 stainless steel to ensure robustness. 

D. Integration with 3rd Party System 

Access control is closely related to the human resources management of an organization. As our client already has a  well-functioning human resources management system, rebuilding a new system would inevitably increase the cost  and workload of the department. Thus, the optimal solution should be able to integrate with their existing system. 

Solution 

All devices including SpeedFace-V5L-RFID[TI] QR, ProID BE10, Mars swing barriers are connected to the InBio Pro 260  Series access controllers and are centrally connected to and managed by the ZKBioSecurity access control management  platform, which is a web-based software, it is able to be integrated with another 3rd party system through API format.  Thus, the client's existing system has remained in the solution. No extra cost is caused.
